Jeff Davis

A lot of folks who read here have probably come into contact with Jeff Davis from Dublin. He has been extremely politically active over the years.

I was just emailed that he died today in a plane crash. Our prayers are with his family.

SKYLAND, N.C. — A small plane crashed Friday in rural western North Carolina, killing the three men on board, officials said.

The single-engine Cessna 182 was on its way from Dublin, Georgia to Asheville Regional Airport when it disappeared from radar around 11 a.m. Air traffic control lost contact with the plane about 1 1/2 miles northwest of the airport, said Kathleen Bergen, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta.

According to a release by the W.H. Bud Barron Airport in Dublin, James V. Hilburn, Jefferson I. Davis III, and James Rodney Connell were on the plane when it departed around 9:30 a.m. and were killed in the crash

My heart goes out to Jeff Davis’ family. Jeff was one of a kind. Anyone who has ever worked in politics knows that Jeff was one of those diamonds in a thousand strands of straw. One of a kind.

No one had better sayings, demonstrated greater loyalty, or was as capable as Jeff Davis in Georgia politics.

I was so much looking forward to seeing my friend Jeff Davis at the upcoming convention.

It would be a very appropriate gesture that this upcoming convention be dedicated to his memory.
