<i>"The House position all along has been that we wanted to give money back to the people of Georgia, whether that be in the form of needed local projects such as economic development, natural resource preservation, or local infrastructure improvements.</i>

Let me make sure I understand the position of Georgia Republican leadership... "pork spending" is really just a form of "giving money back to the taxpayers"?

While I'm am glad you chose not spend it on coke and hookers, I would certainly take issue with this logic. Rebates and tax cuts are "giving money back to taxpayers"... pork spending is funneling taxpayer money to your well-connected allies who bankroll your campaigns.

If this is truly a Republican philosophy on "giving money back", why shouldn't we just elect the far Left? They'll give us even more money back...

Sooo, let me get this straight: they're going to refund $142 million back to GA taxpayers. Um, but only taxpayers who own homes because it's in the form of a boost to the annual homeowner tax credit? Is that correct? Because I admit I haven't been following this very closely, so if someone would like to clarify I would be most appreciative.

However, if that is the case, then thanks, you jerks in both houses of the legislature, from all the folks who don't yet own homes but who still pay taxes. We appreciate you shafting us, and then putting off "major tax reform" so you can go "study" the problem (and try to quell any movement away from the current tax structure because is isn't beneficial to your lobbyist pals).

I'm finding ever more reasons to start voting Libertarian.

And who's not looking forward to that debate? This one was entertaining, so imagine how much fun it will be watching the full budget considered after this series of spats. It's almost like a soap opera.

Don't be so fast there, Erick,

There's a lot of pissing left to go.

Richardson is suffering from a huge case of cranial-rectal inversion. His house is looking like a bad combination of Tom Murphy democrats mixed with 2006 U.S. House Republicans. It ain't pretty, and a two-faced press release won't fix it.

In addition, I'm guessing this press release raises the stakes for the '08 budget. I wouldn't be so sure that a lot of these projects we're assuming will be in it will pass the Senate now.

[...] [UPDATE - 10:32pm] Richardson has released a statement. I’m sorry but I’m calling BS on it. That is a load of crap. [...]
