Wow. Reading through the correspondence between the Lt. Governor and Speaker, you just have to be amazed that the tenor of the response from the Speaker. Now, granted, Casey should have never done the courteous thing and told the Speaker ahead of time what he wanted to do with the budget. He should have just done it. But once he did it, the game was on.
The Lt. Gov. attempted to compromise and the Speaker returned the Lt. Governor’s prior courtesy by sending Casey’s letters to the media and one of his own too, in which he said:
At this point, in light of the suggestions contained in your letter, it appears that you and I may somewhat be circumventing the conference committee process. While clearly we could continue along this path, I do not believe that such action is wise, prudent, or in the best interests of the House, the Senate, or the people of this State.
Where I come from, we call that being a dick. The diplomatic speak for, I’m not talking to you and you are encroaching on my territory, has devolved into this evening’s public spectacle of the House and Senate Conference live for us all to see the pissing match.
Too bad Vernon Jones isn’t in this. It’d get even more entertaining.
