Speaker to Lt. Gov: “I’m In Charge Here You Ungrateful, Damned Neophyte”

Wow. Reading through the correspondence between the Lt. Governor and Speaker, you just have to be amazed that the tenor of the response from the Speaker. Now, granted, Casey should have never done the courteous thing and told the Speaker ahead of time what he wanted to do with the budget. He should have just done it. But once he did it, the game was on.

The Lt. Gov. attempted to compromise and the Speaker returned the Lt. Governor’s prior courtesy by sending Casey’s letters to the media and one of his own too, in which he said:

At this point, in light of the suggestions contained in your letter, it appears that you and I may somewhat be circumventing the conference committee process. While clearly we could continue along this path, I do not believe that such action is wise, prudent, or in the best interests of the House, the Senate, or the people of this State.

Where I come from, we call that being a dick. The diplomatic speak for, I’m not talking to you and you are encroaching on my territory, has devolved into this evening’s public spectacle of the House and Senate Conference live for us all to see the pissing match.

Too bad Vernon Jones isn’t in this. It’d get even more entertaining.

I heard that Richardson’s letter to Casey arrived with a Wild Turkey label unknowingly stuck to the back.

The House is drunk on power, not bourbon.

Casey and the Senate are winning the PR battle as the House looks like a bunch of tin-horn dictators and bratty children.

It’s not that Casey’s beating the shit out of them. He’s just standing aside as the House Leadership bludgeon themselves very publicly.

And a heartfelt “Amen” to Jason Pye’s earlier posting on the hypocrisy in cutting PeachCare while dishing pork.

Casey and the Senate look so dignified and, well, Senatorial, compared to the temper tantrums that make the House looks like a bunch of tin-horn dictators and bratty children.

It’s not that Casey’s beating the crap out of the House. He’s just standing aside while the house leadership bludgeons itself to death very publicly.

And a heartfelt “Amen” to Jason Pye’s earlier posting about the inherent hypocrisy in cutting PeachCare while dishing out the pork that the house seems to feel entitled to.

Did anyone notice that the Salutation in Richardson’s response letter (Word document linked in in AJC piece) was this:

    Dear GOVERNOR Cagle:

    ????

    Just asking…….

Maybe having to address Casey as “Governor” is what has Glenn’s shorts in a knot in the first place.
