Look for someone to get upset by this

I think the wife should have just had the guy deported.

A ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court overturned a Rockdale County Superior Court decision that dismissed a divorce case on the grounds that the man did not meet residency requirements because he is in the country illegally.

The Supreme Court ruled Chief Superior Court Judge Sidney Nation erred in June when he ruled that Ernesto Padron could not file for divorce because he was in the country illegally and therefore his status did not fit the definition of “resident” under the state law. Nation interpreted the word “resident” in the statute to be defined as a legal resident of not only the state, but of the country.

I don’t get it … why should “resident” constitute someone having to be here legally? We have plenty of residents who are illegal.

(I’m just trying to use the logic of Democrats, so bear with me if that sounds absurd)

  2. Federalist says:

No. What is an immigrant doing that is illegal? Illegal immigration is a victimless crime. The people of the U.S., and Georgia, benefit from the immigrant population. America always has. New ideas, more labor, more competition, freer markets, etc.

  3. Andre Walker says:

First of all, illegal immigrants broke the law to get here.

Secondly, illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from American workers; and before you give me that crap about illegal immigrants doing jobs that most Americans won’t, the only reason why that is so is because companies know that they can hire illegal immigrants, pay them less than the minimum wage, not give them any benefits, and not worry about them unionizing because they’re here illegally in the first place. The minute those illegal immigrants start raising a ruckus over having some rights, their employers are gonna look at them and say “you ain’t got no rights…you’re here illegally. Now keep your mouth shut before I call immigration on your behind.”

Federalist, you call illegal immigration a victimless crime, well, I don’t consider taking jobs from Americans a victimless crime.

And please don’t get me started on the health risks that come with illegal immigrants sneaking across the border, bringing potentially epidemic-level illnesses with them.

A: He’s squatting in a country he has no right to be in, whose border he has crossed illegally or whose visa he has overstayed.

The only people benefitting from illegal immigration are illegal aliens and those who hire them for less than market wages. I’m paying for the entitlements and hospital care they get illegally, and so is every other taxpaying citizen.

Federalist, you and your ideas belong in socialist Europe.

Victimless? What an absolute idiot! Not only are illegals sucking the very economic marrow from the bones of legal citizens, they are responsible for 12-24 deaths a DAY, according to US government stats. Deny them any benefits whatsoever except emergency medical care, and watch them run home even faster than they came here.

  6. Chris says:

they are responsible for 12-24 deaths a DAY, according to US government stats

Um….. BFD? Thousands of people are killed each day by legal residents.

And for Doug: I’m not sure which tax fraud you are referring to, but the ones who use illegal social security numbers to fool employers are having wages taken out of their check and sent to Washington, yet won’t be collecting benefits.

  7. Doug Deal says:

    Chris,

Getting paid in cash and not reporting the income is tax fraud. A business owner who fails to report wages is committing tax fraud, and when it is arranged by the agreement and knowledge of the illegal it is also conspiracy.

Using someone else’s SS# to trick an employer into hiring you is committing identity theft. Later, when that person get’s audited for failure to report income, we have a victim to this “victimless” crime.

Illegals are breaking laws (many of which are fellonies) on a daily basis. Maybe the treasury dept should be the one that cracks down on illegals. Get them Al Capone style.

  8. David says:

BFD??? Chris, it’s ok with you that close to 10,000 people get killed each year by folks who are here illegally? Truly a staggering intellect…

Not if they claim 20 dependents.

The point is people can get married to any foreign citizen here legally or illegally. If either party choses to get a divorce there should be no restrictions. Here is a good example why: Say it was a woman who came over here and married an American man and then he became abusive, should she be forced to remain married until the man decided he wanted to divorce the immigrant? That is absurd. So I can’t wait for people to get upset about this because it shows how irrational they are.
