The City of Stockbridge is ending their legal battle against Mark and Regina Meeks. On Friday no one was sure if they’d take their case to the Georgia Supreme Court.
But check these comments by the mayor of the town:
“It looks like to me (the Georgia Court of Appeals) didn’t go by the law,” Kelley said. “The city had a right to do this because it is going to be used for a government building. Well, it was.”
That is absolutely not true. When the original plans were drawn up the Meeks property was going to be used for commercial development. They changed it to public use after it met resistance within the community and after the legal battle started.
I’m happy for the Meeks. However, three members of the city council are up for re-election in November. The work isn’t over.
