BTW-

Tutor Georgia is needing Latin tutors! So if anyone is interested go ahead and list as a tutor with Tutor Georgia.

Click on "Be A Tutor" and see the subjects that
are offered. You may want to teach others subjects as well!

Erik-

Your idea is wonderful. When I ran for State House this past year, I actually wanted to introduce this concept to the public schools! I have been an educator for over 25 years and I am currently the CEO of The Tutor Georgia Foundation www.TutorGeorgia.com.

Young students benefit greatly from learning Latin in elementary school. I am an advocate of Classical Education known also as The Trivium which is made up of 3 levels of learning: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.

Also, learning Latin will help our students with English Grammar, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.

The Governor is pulling the plug on a long term pilot program that only serves a number of school systems. This isn't the same as the foreign language classes in school systems....those classes are funding via QBE The Governor has a history of killing programs that aren't statewide.

I tend to agree with him on this issue. He is putting the money back into QBE media which means school systems CAN put the money into the foreign languages area. Plus I hear his IE2 task force is looking at a foreign language component.

I can't believe a $1.5 million redirection of funds is causing an uproar. But then again, people don't understand the issue

Will, I agree that most of our kids have never learned the English language. Judging by what I hear from the kid's today and our state's continued placement near or in the sewer of the 50 states, one might assume that they aren't really capable of being more than EMR. (Educationally Mentally Retarded) Sonny is simply trying to avoid more embarrassment when our progeny continue to score on the same level with Koko the Gorilla.

You know, I have to say, I wonder what else the Governor is proposing cutting that we don't know about yet.

I hate to say that, but I think it needs to be said.

It's very easy to learn grammar good without Latin, bitches! ;)

Don't y'all realize that if kids are learning foreign languages, it means their learning SPANISH! Oh no, and if people know Spanish, then they can talk to the illegals, and the illegals can talk to them, and it would be pandemonium and chaos with all those brown people talking to our kids...

Erick: Latin should be a requirement to graduate from high school in Georgia. I am convinced that most kids in Georgia never learned anything about English grammar. Ironically enough, Latin is the best way to learn grammar. On top of the fact that most languages in Europe come from Latin. It the basic building block of the Western languages.
