My question: Who really gives a sh$t? We used to laugh at all the SGA dorks, can't they nerd out in high school and get it over with? Or at least just go to Tech and continue?

SGA doesn´t have to be useless, but it is because of how the voting system is manipulated and who that manipulation benefits. SGA has been plagued by a series of ineffective administrations because its leaders are showhorses, not workhorses. Think Bob Barr over John Linder. They are very much unable to to engage in anything productive, mostly due to their own vanity.

Student representation might be much better served by a new organization whose leaders are selected not by a few people on Milledge Ave. but by the people who actually show up and care about issues facing the University.

But, if apathy is really that low, seems like the candidates could at least get friends to vote for them. And unless they have a certain number/percentage of students that has to vote, the vote should be positive. I know at Kennesaw if even if you just vote for yourself and no one else bothers to vote in that race, you win. One vote is all it takes. Pathetic I know, but true.

[...] Peach Pundit, a multi-author blog on politics in Georgia, has picked up the story of the SGA vote. Here and here. In the comments on the first post, someone makes a comparison of the strength of Georgia Tech’s SGA compared to ours, and in the second post they posted the Fox 5 video. [...]

UGA students get to vote on whether or not to dismantle their government. Why can't voters nationwide vote on whether or not to disband the Federal Government like our founding fathers believed
