If a private development company manages to win approval from local elected officials to finance construction of a hotel next to the Macon Coliseum and Wilson Convention Center, it plans to build a full-service Sheraton, a spokesman for the development company said.
Noble Investment Group has been leaning toward Sheraton ever since the investment group has been involved with the hotel project, spokesman Muarion Zimmerman said. Other possibilities had been Marriott or Hilton.
“We just decided Sheraton would be the best move,” Zimmerman said, adding that it seemed to fit the Macon market. He said his group has successfully worked before with Sheraton’s parent company, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
Don’t get me wrong, Sheraton is an okay brand, but everyone’s been talking about something upscale. I was thinking “Westin” or “Intercontinental” or “Hyatt.” A Sheraton? Why not just go Hampton Inn and bring in the Hilton sisters to promote it.
And why hasn’t the County Commission killed the Macon Hotel deal yet? It’s fiscally irresponsible. It’s in the wrong location. Everybody knows it.
Shame on the commissioners for not killing this. I had higher hopes in Commissioner Hart, but now I hear he is for it and apparently Commissioner Allen is jockeying for personal position, even though several people tell me Commissioner Allen has said he was against the deal.
That’s a shame. This deal should die.
