Speaker Pelosi

I’ve been dreading this moment for weeks, but Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was just elected Speaker of the House by a vote of 233-202 – entirely along party lines. She is the first women to ever fill the role. Congratulations to Pelosi and Democrats.

Pelosi will accept her new position “in the spirit of partnership, not partisanship,” according to an advance text of her remarks. “With today’s convening of the 110th Congress, we begin anew.”

The Democratic takeover after spending most of the past dozen years in the minority comes as President Bush echoes congressional calls for bipartisanship — but with indications of partisan fights to come.

Joining Pelosi in leading Congress is Sen. Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, who takes over as Senate majority leader.

“Let us join together in the first 100 hours to make this Congress the most honest and open in history,” Pelosi’s text said.

Amid bursts of applause, new members of Congress took oaths of office in ceremonies on Thursday in the Capitol.

Welcome to the 110th Congress… it is going to be a VERY long two years. But in the “spirit of partnership” I wish all in the new Congress the very best.

You’re dreading the next two years? Awww…that’s better than lamenting what’s happened to your country over the past 10, with special attention paid to the last 6.

I wonder if all the little “compassionate conservatives” heads will explode in 2008 when, after doing a good job at cleaning up the mess that’s been made by the now whining minority, Americans vote in a Dem president (that is if the machines are allowed to actually count the votes correctly).

Teehee. Madame Speaker. Get used to it.

I think the more Republicans make of it, the more the contrast stands out… Just leave it alone…

If there is a Speaker Pelosi its because the Republicans lost their way and abandoned what they stood for: personal responsibility, national security, and limited government.

Seriously, Republicans should be happy with a Speaker Pelosi. If she’s too liberal or crappy, then the national party has got a demon to run against (a good Repub always needs a good lefty homo or feminist to demonize during his race). And if she does a good job, then maybe the country will be able to begin to dig ourselves out from under a mountain of government debt and medical bills … which is good for all of us.

    It’s a win/win.

Wait, you think Nancy Pelosi is going to dig us out of the mountain of government debt? Surely you jest…

While I knew that Pelosi would become Speaker when the Democrats won, I was surprised at the vote total. I cannot help but to think that I heard numerous freshman blue dogs (or well for now, blue pups as they are called in their first term) voting for another Democrat or simply answering present.

I was really shocked that Congressman Gene Taylor voted for Pelosi as he is normally the one to vote Present or vote for another Democrat.

I also find out funny how Republicans on here are so quick to point out how “fiscally irresponsible” Democrats are, however, they fail to admit how bad the GOP-led Congress was. The partisan shades are become more and more popular these days I guess.

    mmmmmmmmmm……………maybe I can help summize on that……

It looked more like one of those high-dollar rubber Hollywood special effects masks to me.

Pretty high quality also, as the mouth seemed to hold up rather well for the duration.

    Or…….coulda been a robot.
