Train Collision Caught on Tape

A Port Wentworth police officer was truly in the right place at the right time early this morning. WTOC Savannah reported earlier that the officer’s dashboard camera was rolling when a train struck a stranded car at the railroad crossing at Gulfstream Road and Highway 21.

Sgt. Loren Scholes was going about his normal patrolling routines early Wednesday morning in Chatham County. Around 5:55 am, he noticed a car stuck at the railroad intersection of Gulf Stream Road and Highway 21.

Scholes was able to get the driver out of the car before a train plowed into the vehicle minutes later. No one was injured.

WTOC said they interviewed the officer and will have more on the story tonight at 6. See the video of the crash here or read the whole story on WTOC’s website.
