More power for Casey.

As reported earlier, the Lt. Governor’s position will have more power than it did under Mark Taylor – more in line with what Lt. Governor’s had prior to the GOP take over a few years ago. To that end, a Committee has been formed to decide exactly what that means:

According to a press release, the committee will be charged with comprehensively reviewing provisions in the Senate rules, GOP caucus rules, and Georgia Code that govern the operation of the Georgia State Senate.

Under Cagle’s direction, that review will be focused on developing a set of rules changes that streamlines the daily operations of the Senate, allows individual members to have their voices heard and talents fully utilized, and allows the presiding officer to negotiate with the House and governor.

The committee will consist of: Sens. Eric Johnson, Chip Pearson, Chip Rogers, David Shafer, and Tommie Williams.

It sounds that Senator Calgle and other Republicans want to make sure that the Lt. Gov. job is “The” stepping stone to the Gov. office. This would effectively make sure that GA has a line of succesion to higher office. I think a lot of State Senators felt that Ralphie Reed leap frogged them to run for Lt. Gov and they don’t want that happening again.

Many people are trying to line up there run for Gov. Richardson, Handle, Cagle, Westmoreland and others I am sure. All will try but only 1 will win. In my opinion only 2 of these 4 are Conservative. Good luck to them.

  3. rightofcenter says:

Only two of those four are conservative? Perhaps if you are a big fan of John Birch.

They’re all four conservative. Perhaps you prefer reactionary.

  4. Bull Moose says:

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle is on his way to becoming a tranformational leader in the State of Georgia. He will be a leader that both Republicans and Democrats can respect and look to for a steady hand.

I am glad that his colleagues have restored the powers of this position.

To Bill Simon, rightofcenter, and PeggyP-

Peggy sorry I will leave hints but asking them would be better.

Bill and roc, one of these four is now telling people close to them they have become a moderate. Ask around or ask them all directly and I am sure you will figure it out. My idea of a true Conservative is that you have balance between fiscal and social Conservative issues. One of these does not have balance making that person only half conservative. Your turn for rebutal.
