Telegraph Endorsements

Never has the Macon Telegraph ever endorsed so many Republicans. They must be making up for the fact that they’ll endorse Mark Taylor on Sunday.

Karen Handel is our choice because of her proven track record in both private and public sectors. While she is tied to Gov. Sonny Perdue (she was on his transition team in 2002), she exhibits the kind of independence that whoever sits in the governor’s chair won’t be able to influence her, particularly when it comes to elections. We like her plan for creating a centralized voter registration program. That would ensure the most up-to-date voter information. Handel will also continue Cox’s efforts to move functions of the office out of metro Atlanta.

Karen Handel, Kathy Cox, and Rep. Allen Freeman all got the endorsement. It’s very impressive, and telling, that Freeman got their endorsement. Two years ago, the Telegraph thumbed their nose at Freeman and wouldn’t give him the time of day.

Of course, even now, they showered him in faint praise and said how much they disagree with him on virtually everything, but since the legislature will stay Republican they’d endorse him.

Ah, the power of incumbency.

Maybe the folks in Macon know what side of the fence they would like to sit?

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out which way the entitlement money will flow.
