[...] A comment at PeachPundit about the influence of Christians in the Republican party here in Georgia got me thinking that few people understand how evangelical Christians came to power in the party and what the nature of that power is today. I am fortunate enough to have been involved in many of the events that led to this shift in the Republican party and would like to give my perspective. I wrote a similar article last year but thought I would write about this again with an eye towards Georgia politics. [...]

Well, Decaturguy, you know South Carolina is in the Southeast. The Northeast is too darn liberal for me. Perhaps, you were suggesting that I move to the Middle East.

"Mike also spoke about redistricting and how the state House districts created two years ago have helped created some very balanced districts in DeKalb County. Mike made a strong point for taking redistricting out of the hands of politicians who would draw lines to maintain power as opposed to serving the people."

After having complete control of the district lines for the last 100+ years, it's no surprise most of the Democrats now think it's a really good idea to take control of the lines out of politicians' hands. I have a marginal familiarity of Jacobs' district, but believe with a couple of nudges of the ol' district lines and Mike would have a General Election uphill battle.

Ultimately the people have control of the district lines. One of the reasons attributed to Roy Barnes' downfall was his complete bastardization of the Legislative districts. Taking gerrymandering to a whole new level he created the multi-member district. In Atlanta we had no idea who was representing us, with State House districts that had more people then Senate Districts. There were a lot of folks in South Georgia that were really ticked off that Barnes was so willing to slice and dice their communities for raw political power and in 2002 the people spoke.

Christian exodus to South Carolina just may be the answer for Christians that are fed up with the way our United States is heading! For the information of like-minded Christians.

Cecil Staton stands-up for the Lord except where it concerned at least one of the Commandments. He and his cronies threw out a whole bunch of lies about Phil Gingrey back in 2002 and I don't see ANYWHERE in the Bible that says "lying is bad unless you're in a political race..."

Well, I have news for Fran, et al, which is that the Republican Party would not be where it is today were it not for the Christians. I refuse to take a label and be called "religious right." I am proud to support Representative Cecil Staton and any other representative that will stand up for the Lord! Christians most certainly deserve a seat at the table of government and we will not be shoved out!

Jill Chambers is doing the taxpayers are great service by trying to clean up MARTA. Atlanta needs MARTA to be a first class system, and if Rep. Chambers is successful, it will be.

As a lifelong resident of DeKalb County, can someone point to where county government is not working for us, especially compared to the nightmare they go through in Fulton? Does any other county in the state have twice weekly county trash pickup plus an extra day for recycling?

Thanks, Will, for your post about the speaker series. As a friend and supporter of Mike Jacobs, I echo your comments about his commitment to public service. I think it's fantastic that he's seeking to restructure DeKalb's government, and put us back on track to making a county government that actually works.
