Scalia Just Another “Activist Judge,” Says Tom Delay

“You can always count on the judiciary to make stupid rulings. Not only stupid, but dangerous.”
Rep. Tom Delay, on the decision by that liberal activist judge, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, to not take his name of the ballot in Texas, in the November General Election.
Seems that the “activist judge” disease has even infected Scalia.  Wow!  Or maybe “activist judge” is just a term conservatives assign to a judge who’s opinion they do not like.

  1. MorganCoGOP says:

To be fair to Delay the link you provided does not quote Delay calling Scalia an “activist judge.” Not saying he didn’t, but it’s not in that article.

  2. buzzbrockway says:

Delay can complain all he wants but this mess is his own darn fault. He should have dropped out of the race BEFORE the primary. That would have given the voters in his district the chance to nominate a Republican to run for the seat. Instead, he’s given the seat to the Democrat without much of a fight, and in case Delay hadn’t noticed, the GOP doesn’t have any “extra” House seats it can afford to throw away.

  3. StevePerkins says:

Xerox and Kleenex have valuable trademarks that are hanging on by a thread, because their creators were sloppy and let them be used carelessly. Likewise, there is an excellent federalist case for strict constructionism in the judicial branch… but since the neocons spent years screaming “ACTIVIST JUDGE!” at anybody opposed to executive branch dictatorship, the term has lost all its value. Damn shame.

  4. JP says:

Rugby_fan, I”m with you. Stupidity, and it becomes entirely hypocritical when a red state twit like “K Street” DeLay calls freaking Scalia an “activist judge.” You have GOT to be kidding me!

Yet another uber-conservative catch phrase shown to be the hog crap it really is, at least to the reality-based community.

  5. rugby_fan says:

In the last 5ish years or so, we have seen the GOP as the only bastion of sanity and thought in DC. Compare that to the 90s when both parties were serious policy driven parties.

Now, neither party has any common sense or thought. As evidenced with this “activist judges” phrase.

Oh, and let’s not forget about all those flag burnin’ gay mexicans! There a threat I tells ya!

  6. Decaturguy says:

Thanks Jace. If you would listen to me more often, you’d probably be surprised at how much you would agree with me.

  7. rjhatl says:

Maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but when I see the legislative branch pointing at the judicial branch and accusing them of doing “stupid” and “dangerous” things, the three words pot, kettle, and black come to mind..
