Senators urge voters to support Cagle

by Jason Pye on July 17, 2006

A letter from 23 Georgia Republican State Senators urges Georgia voters to vote for Casey Cagle over Ralph Reed.

Read below.

Dear Voter,

Tomorrow, Georgia Republicans will go to the polls to nominate our candidate for Lt. Governor. It is a position that will significantly impact everything that happens in our state for at least the next four years. Georgians deserve a leader with experience, dedication to service, and most importantly, a leader they can trust. The best choice for our state is Senator Casey Cagle.

As elected Republicans, we know how important it is to have an effective leader running the State Senate and we are in full support of Casey Cagle. We have been behind Senator Cagle since he announced his intentions to run for Lt. Governor because of his leadership, experience and vision for Georgia. He has demonstrated an honest and trustworthy commitment to conservative principles in over a decade of public service, and he has never betrayed our trust. Passage of common-sense legislation like tort reform, private property protection, severe penalties for sexual predators, voter ID, the nation’s strongest state laws against illegal immigration, a $1 Billion tax-cut, etc… have proven that Republicans can lead state government and make a positive difference and Casey Cagle has been there ensuring that all these important pieces of legislation were passed.

The son of a single mom, Casey Cagle has lived the American dream. He has proved it as a loving father, a successful businessman, and a trusted legislator. Georgians deserve a leader with a proven record they can trust. Georgians deserve Casey Cagle to be our next Lt. Governor.

We know there has been a lot of mudslinging in this race and it can be confusing so please take a moment to look at FactCheck.org, the nation’s top non-partisan political advertising analysts, have concluded that Ralph Reed’s attack campaign on Casey Cagle is “false and misleading.”

Polls show that this is an extremely tight race with large numbers of undecided voters. Your vote could well be the ONE THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE. We hope that you will join us in support for Casey Cagle as our next Lt. Governor and please go to the polls tomorrow to cast your vote, and please encourage everyone you know to do the same.

If you need any information on voting, just call Casey’s office at 770-536-9998. If you need more information on Casey Cagle, please visit www.caseycagle.com

Thank you for your time and consideration

At your Service,

Sen. Chip Pearson
Sen. Chip Rogers
Sen. Jeff Mullis
Sen. Johnny Grant

How many Senators were on the first letter that was sent out?

MountainThinker July 17, 2006 at 6:01 pm

So does this mean All the Reed people will be voting for Black? How Ironic…

LINDA July 17, 2006 at 6:13 pm

Thank you, as I sent this to a couple of undecided voters!

atlantaman July 17, 2006 at 6:15 pm

Who was the letter sent to?

techtrack July 17, 2006 at 6:16 pm

i know it went to his email tree.

MountainThinker July 17, 2006 at 6:16 pm

Everyone on those 23 senators mailing lists I believe…I got it.

Maurice Atkinson July 17, 2006 at 6:52 pm

Hmmm,,, and didn’t one of these pundit’s hiding behind a moniker say just Thursday or Friday that Judson Hill had pulled his support for Cagle.

Reliable sources or simply disinformation.

bowersville July 17, 2006 at 7:03 pm

Kudos to Senator Nancy Schaefer of the 50th. Glad to see your on the list!

northside elephant July 17, 2006 at 7:04 pm

Maurice A.,

Some Reed supporters have given the Cobb senators a hard time for endorsing their friend and fellow senator. Judson Hill has spoken out many times urging local Republicans to keep it civil and stand behind the nominee.

Chris Farris July 17, 2006 at 7:07 pm

I think this is by far the most vital endorsement either candidate has gotten. 23 out of 33 Republican State Senators agree: they want Casey Cagle to lead them in 2007 and beyond.

GrandOleDawg July 17, 2006 at 7:24 pm

The fact that 23 of our Republican State Senators would take such a strong stance in a highly contested race like this really begs the question: What are these guys afraid of? I know all of you rabid Cagle supporters will say. “They know Ralph Reed will be a diasaster” That’s bull and you know it. They are really just looking out for their own self interest. What are they up to up there to be so concerned about an outsider (and a very dynamic one at that) coming in? They don’t want “Casey Cagle to lead them in 2007 and beyond.” , they want to keep up the inside baseball, and get committee appointments/chairmanships. My senator is on there, and he has yet to give me a good reason for signing the resolution asking Ralph to drop out.

Breaking up this clique is one of my top reasons to vote for Ralph.

The new reed campaign slogan – political nerds unite! Let’s fight back against all those cool kid senators who won’t let us into their club.

The reality? They know casey and think hed be a great lg. They know ralph and think he’s an unbearable prick who will likley destroy the gov.

Spare us the high school bs.

northside elephant July 17, 2006 at 7:36 pm

Is this Reed’s new message? He is the anti-establishment candidate? Reed is an “outsider”?

Wake up man, Reed is a millionare beltway lobbyist!

GrandOleDawg July 17, 2006 at 7:52 pm

Jack S, Im sure you are the opitome of coolness.

I’m calling him a outsider. I’m simply wondering why these guys feel their interest so threatened by the idea of someone very qualified, but not from the Senate taking the LG post.

And Jack, Reed will destroy the govt? I guess he’ll probably do that the same way he “destroyed” the GOP back in 2002, huh?

northside elephant July 17, 2006 at 7:55 pm

GODawg,

Keep thinking that the Senate is afraid of Ralph. That is laughable, you guys deify Ralph and take an us-against-them approach to this whole race. Why?

GOPeach July 17, 2006 at 7:59 pm

GrandOleDawg-

Now you’re barking!!!

These Republican Senators are a fraternity!!!!
Nancy Shaffer was bullied by them to ” play pretty”
or else.

Not one of these senators would be in office if
it were not for the Christian Conservative base
that elected them. They are siding with the
liberal left. They are all going very moderate.

Their base is abandoning them fast. This list
has been sent to me numerous times. It is now
being called the Senate Black List by the
conservative base.

This list first circlated on SENATE STATIONARY
during session. The Tax -payers of Georgia
paid for this!!! This is so wrong.

A better reason to vote for Ralph Reed tomoorow!

I am a republican and I like these Senators but
I can campaign for anyone on this list. They are
Through after this.

Hide and watch!

GOPeach July 17, 2006 at 8:02 pm

North Elephant-

They started it.

They started the petition to scare off Ralph
back in February. They ganged up on Ralph.
They are so jealous.

This is going to bite them in the fanny.
We will not be bullied by these jocks.

Enough is enough!

northside elephant July 17, 2006 at 8:07 pm

GOPeach there you go again deifying Ralph. And I am not sure that he would approve of your use of foul language like “fanny”.

GrandOleDawg July 17, 2006 at 8:14 pm

My last post should read “I’m *not* calling him an outsider.” Apologies.

bowersville July 17, 2006 at 8:18 pm

GOPeach, if the Senator of the 50th is through, you’ll have to come up here and campaign for the liberal, and I mean liberal Democratic candidate in November. There are only two choices in the 50th, and like I said before, that choice is in November. The choices are Incumbent conservative Republican Senator Nancy Schaefer or former Democratic Senator and still liberal Carol Jackson. So put Republican Schaefer on your black list and endorse Democrat Jackson! For you to refer in any manner that Senator Schaefer is liberal to moderate is an absolute joke.

northside elephant July 17, 2006 at 8:31 pm

Fortunately I do not think that there are many Reed supporters that are as vindictive as GOPeach.

Bull Moose July 17, 2006 at 8:32 pm

Good to see leaders stand up for what’s right.

debbie0040 July 17, 2006 at 9:42 pm

I spoke to Judson and he explained the GOP Senators were like family. Their kids played together and they socialize. Cagle gave Judson support when Judson first announced he was running for State Senator. It stands to reason the State Senators would support each other.

They also endorsed Stephens and Black.

I have spoken to Judson and Chip and they have said they will work hard and support whoever the nominee is. They have both stated they are not against anyone.

Chris you are wrong about Cagle getting the most State Senators endorsements. Stephens and Kemp got more.

debbie0040 July 17, 2006 at 9:46 pm

The State Senators sent out the emails today. When I send out emails I track them to see when they are opened. It is usually after the second day before they are read..

You are wrong Northside. I have heard it said that sacrifice is sometimes required to send a message….

Cagle is toast….

bowersville July 17, 2006 at 10:02 pm

Debbie
I was poised to defend you for making a reasonable post until you got down to “Chris you are wrong about Cagle getting the most Senators endorsements….” Chris didn’t say that. Chris said “by far the most vital endorsement either candidate has gotten.” This is a reference to Reed/Cagle, not to most. Then I hear….”sacrifice is sometimes required to send a message…” Damn if this attitude puts the party back together for November. Not cursing you Debbie, just disagreeing.

bowersville July 17, 2006 at 10:06 pm

Debbie
I’m not defending Cagle supporters who have espoused the same garbage either.

BahamaBoy July 17, 2006 at 10:18 pm

She just keeps giving . . .

Now, Debbie says: ‘The State Senators sent out the emails today. When I send out emails I track them to see when they are opened. It is usually after the second day before they are read..”

So, are you saying these Senator email will flop because, accordingly to your expereicne, people who receive it won’t read the email until after the primary, like maybe Wednesday? Priceless, Debbie. You amaze me.

I know why YOUR emails don’t get opened for a few days after they are sent, Debbie: No one gives a damn about what you have to say!

How ya like them apples?

bowersville July 17, 2006 at 11:00 pm

GOPeach,
Since you have not submited a response, I will submit my rebutal anyway. You haven’t a clue as to the demographics of the 50th. We are fighting the rumor mill of entrenched Democratic State Representative Alan Powell of the 29th, Democrat of Hartwell, the entrenched Democratic State Representative of the 28th, Jeanette Jamison of Toccoa. BTW,did you know Ralph claimed he was from the NE Georgia Mtns of Toccoa, a bald faced lie, which has made the Republicans a laughing stock in Stephens County. Represetative Ben Bridges of the 10th, Cleveland, representing a portion of the 50th in Habersham County has not only endorsed Schaefer, but he has contributed financialy to her re-elelction. We have only two R’s from our area Schaefer and Bridges. We are in a struggle to hold on to the 50th and for you to open your big fat mouth in to our 50th is resented!

Bull Moose July 18, 2006 at 2:27 am

My state senator did not sign the letter. He says he is neutral, whatever that means. I’m not sure what the purpose of being neutral is at this point. You’re either for or against something. In this case, you’re either for or against ethics. You’re either for or against money laundering, racism, cheating native americans, abusing non-profits, forced abortions, prostitution, should I keep going?

Anyway, after working till just now on the campaign, I’m just a little peeved that my state senator is neutral.

debbie0040 July 18, 2006 at 6:40 am

Bowersville, I vehemently disagree with the sacrifice thing. I was just responding to northside saying , “Fortunately I do not think that there are many Reed supporters that are as vindictive as GOPeach. ” It would be rather foolish to think otherwise…

Bull moose , it is Cagle supporters l ike you that are going to cost Cgle the election. Voters hear that sentiment from Cagle and now from his supporters. Keep up the good work.

Prove your allegatins against Reed.

Reagan held the same position as Reed did in the Mariannas. Does that mean Reagan was in favor of forced abortions, child prostitution and forced labor?

Reed did not launder money. The Senate report mentioned Abramoff in reagrd to that but not Reed. Reed is not racist and he did not cheat native americans. Abramoff is the one that abused the non profits not Reed.

Reed made his fortune in private enterprise not while a State Senator serving on the Senate Banking Committee.

As far as the emails, I wonder who has more emails? The state senators or Georgia Right to Life and Christian Coalition? I received and email from both yesterday about Cagle lying about the GRTL endorsement in his radio ads.

dagny July 18, 2006 at 10:04 am

yeah, they are going to be sorry for this one alright.

bruce benidict July 18, 2006 at 10:07 am

Reed is gonna tan the mooses hide tonight!!!! ha…he and Clint will be talking about the good ol days when bo callaway almost won soon!!!!

dagny July 18, 2006 at 10:16 am

whatever ass believes that Ralph actually advocated abortions and child prostitution is just mentally retarded.

nfire July 18, 2006 at 10:28 am

Ignoring the fact that he did the bidding to block laws which would have made forced abortions illegal is what’s really mentally retarded.

northside elephant July 18, 2006 at 10:34 am

Dagny the type of ass that believes Ralph protected the sex tourism and forced labor industries of the Northern Marrianas includes the Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, National Review, AJC, Forbes…

Maybe you should bemore skeptical of what he says and look more at what he does.

BahamaBoy July 18, 2006 at 1:05 pm

Don’t confuse Dagny with the facts. He likes his Kool-Aid just the way it is.
