Reed Response

The Reed camp has issued a hard hitting response to the Cagle ad that gives me the most qualms — the one about the Northern Marianas. I can’t find it on Ralph’s website so I’ll put it below the fold.

Cagle Ad Promotes H.R. 730, Clinton Wage Measure Opposed by GOP Congress That Granted Amnesty to Foreign Workers
Casey Cagle’s latest negative ad attacking Ralph Reed actually promotes a 1999 bill backed by Bill Clinton and union bosses that would have imposed federal wage and immigration laws on a U.S. territory. The bill included a provision granting amnesty to foreign workers. Cagle is so desperate to distract attention from his own ethical problems—like voting to benefit banks while running a bank and failing to pay his taxes—that he sides with Clinton and union bosses against Ralph Reed and Republicans who opposed the Clinton plan, including Congressman Bob Riley of Alabama and House Majority Leader Dick Armey.

Fact: As a U.S. Commonwealth, the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) were covered by existing federal health and safety laws.
Federal labor, health and safety laws, including the Occupational Safety and Hazard Act of 1970, apply to all U.S. territories, including the Northern Marianas Islands. Cagle’s claim that sweat shops, forced abortion or child prostitution are legal on a U.S. territory is absurd. Well it only took him, what a couple of days to come up with a response. Nice reaction time there Ralphie.

  2. The Busdriver says:

I noticed no mention of the name “Abramoff” in that entire, disgustingly boring release.

    Wait, I’ll look again . . .

    Nope, no mention of Abramoff.

  3. The Busdriver says:

If the entire GOP caucus was opposed to the bill, why did Ralphie send out mailers urging constituents to call Bob Riley and urge him to oppose the bill?

Ralph Reed’s ad attacking Cagle on things he NEVER said (i.e., the “Everybody does it” quote was from an opinion-writer with the Savannah Mornign News, not Casey) and trying to label him as a “millionaire” as if that is sleazy, completely DETRACTS from any other claim Ralph makes on ANYTHING.

Did the Reed campaign manager(RR junior) have to miss The Real World/Road Rules Challenge last night in order to write this response? Hopefully he has TIVO

  6. Bill B. says:

It will take Cagle weeks to try and sound out all the big words in that response! Can someone read it to him or does he even get involved in that kind of stuff.

We know press releases are sent out over his signature that he doesn’t notice are complete fabrications for SEVEN WEEKS!

Or is that just how long it takes him to sound out the big words?

    Silage –
How can you have a runoff when there are only 2 people in the race? Please explain…..

  8. Bull Moose says:

Good God Ralph Reed, go away. We don’t want you representing us with your made up values that are for sale.

Go back to the Mariana Islands, Jack Abramoff’s house, or wherever it is that you’re going to recover from this campaign and stay there.

You have demonstrated yourself to be absolutely one of the worst and most unethical candidates to ever think about running for office in Georgia.

I hope you end up losing and making a humiliating mess of yourself on July 18.

I see that Congress is debating online gambling today. Couldnt Ralph get them to wait until after he loses his primary so he could argue for gambling again?

Bill B. You crack me up.

  11. Romegaguy says:

Debbie that is his response to the ad from last week. By the time he responds to the Mariana Islands it will be July 19. But by then he can use some of that money he raised for the runoff…

  12. duluthmom says:

The whole response should be entitled “Don’t blame me, Blame it on Bill Clinton.”

Clinton’s name was referenced 18 times in that piece (way more than Cagle’s or Reed’s).

And the last paragraph is such bs. If you are going to offer proof of your unique qualifications, you don’t use your own website’s rhetoric. (Besides don’t we already have laws for “outlawing the practice” of child prostitution and sex slaves?)

  13. Bull Moose says:

Holy Hell, who has time to read that much? Is Ralph Reed a sociopath? I mean, in his mind, that made sense, that’s a little frightening…

Please let this race end soon…
