1. The Busdriver says:

Yeah, she never supported domestic partnership benefits and gay adoption. And she never filled out the Georgia Equality survey. And she never attended Atlanta Pride.

Wait . . yeah she did.

Ok everyone pile on and tell me how she’s been misquoted and how she had to pander to gays because she served on Fulton County Commission.

  2. Bill Simon says:

Bus, why don’t you stop beating around the bush and go find someone to drop a bill thta banishes all gays from Georgia. And, if there are any gay children found, get them out too.

You and Debbie really have an itch in your rear-end about the gays and lesbians in the world, doncha?

  3. The Busdriver says:

You guys haven’t been reading this blog very carefully if you think Debbie and I are singing off the same sheet music.

Bill, your response was totally overboard. You want to pick a policy fight with me, when all I was doing was pointing out problems with Handel’s record. And yes, techtrack, it is old news, and I wasn’t trying to start a debate.

Look, I’m not making sexual preference a campaign issue, and I don’t support gay-baiting by any candidate. I’m only pointing out that Handel previous statements don’t jive at all with what she’s saying now. At all.

And Bill, you started this thread off by calling Stephens a liar. You can call me a hatemonger if you like, regardless of how unfounded the charge may be. But you’re just using a diversionary tactic–rip the messenger, not the message.

  4. bowersville says:

This has been floated over and over and over and over and over since the day Handel announced her intentions to run for SoS. Dress it up, change the tune, change the chorus, it’s old and getting older. Does the Senator not have any other platform?

  5. debbie0040 says:

Stepehens is distorting Handel’s record to cover up the fact he help defeat Bush-Quayle in 1992 and helped elect Clinton-Gore. He helped defeat the Dole ticket in 1996.

For the record, I really don’t understand why social issues are being debated for Secretary of State. Can someone please enlighten me and tell me what social issues have to do with SOS?

Karen Handel spoke at the inaugural meeting of the Cobb Regional Republican Women while she was serving in the Perdue Administration. I was quite satisfied then that she was both fiscally and socially conservative.

Think about this for a minute. If any of you went to the Gwinnett event, you saw a good number of people walking around with Reed, Handel and Black stickers on. Do you really think Reed supporters would support anyone that is in favor of gay marriage or special rights for gays?

  6. The Busdriver says:

Bill, I’m still hacked about what you said. You can scan through all my posts on this site–my posts have never included any comments about homosexuality. I don’t buy into all the “gay people are coming for your children” crap, etc. I don’t care about that stuff–I was just calling you out for ripping Stephens and ignoring the record.

    The reason I posted is

    a. You blindly called Stephens a liar without even knowing what he might say

    b. Just because Handel said/did something a couple of years ago, it doesn’t make it untrue. If that were the case, Ralph Reed wouldn’t be in the trouble he is.

Your zeal to defend your candidate of choice caused you to say crap about me you know isn’t true.

  7. Three Jack says:

Debbie asked, “Do you really think Reed supporters would support anyone that is in favor of gay marriage or special rights for gays?” According to you Debbie, there were a whole bunch of Reed myrmidons at the Guliani rally supporting a guy in favor of civil unions, gun control, etc.

So I guess the answer is, hell yes, the mind numbed myrmidons will blindly support anything Ralphie boy tells them to support…you are the epitome of a Reed myrmidon.

Topic at hand, Stephens will do as he always does, send out heavy mail attacking an opponent without regard to relevance or truth. It will have little impact because Karen has proven herself to be a strong leader with conservative principles throughout her career.

  8. The Busdriver says:

You guys are all saying Stephens is lying about Karen, blah blah blah.

So are you saying that Karen never supported gay adoption, domestic partner benefits, never attended Atlanta Pride, and never appeared before Georgia Stonewall Democrats?

I don’t hear you guys denying those charges. I don’t think that stuff really matters at all, but you’re saying Stephens is lying about Karen’s record on this particular issue and you couldn’t be more wrong.

Go ahead and change the subject. I know no one is going to refute that part of Karen’s history, and by history I mean less than 5 years ago.

  9. debbie0040 says:

Three Jack you are showing your stupidity. Ralph has not told anyone to support Karen. He is neutral in this race.

You are right about the Rudy event but many were there because they like Rudy and the type of leadership he provided during the 9-11 crisis.

  10. JRM2016 says:

I think the charge that Karen is gay is what Bill was referring to, something that the Stephens campaign has been promoting since Karen got in this race.

I don’t know about those other items you mentioned and none of those things really concern me. What does concern me is the mailer I received from the Stephens campaign yesterday.

In four pages, I identified one policy and one claim that relate to the office of SoS. One that Bill if elected will keep illegal aliens from voting (that really makes him stand out from the rest of the field) and that Bill has been a leader in the fight against voter fraud. The entire rest of the mailer says nothing, not one thing about why Bill Stephens wants to be SoS or what he will do if elected. I have asked and asked for months now on this site what Bill wants to do. I guess the answer is he wants to keep on being paid by taxpayers and that he wants to be Governor. I’d even appreciate a hint about what he would do with that job, just a scintilla of evidence that the man knows/cares about policy.

The SoS is a large office that regulates dozens of professions, not to mention its role in keeping our elections fair and making the management of corporations as simple and painless as possible. It has a large budget and many employees. We need someone with a vision to carry this office into the 21st century, not someone looking for a platform. That is why I am proudly casting my vote in the GOP Primary for Karen Handel, because she has demonstrated her ability to lead as a County executive and has outlined, unlike any of her Republican opponents, a cogent vision for what will happen in a Handel administration of the SoS office.

    Handel ’06!

  11. The Busdriver says:

I’m not campaigning for or against Handel. And I don’t think she’s gay, nor have I ever circulated that notion.

I don’t think any of this stuff matters at all. I was just responding to Bill’s blanket charge.

  12. Bill Simon says:

The reason why I called Stepehsn a liar is because the ONLY way Karen Handel will be presented as holding a rainbow flag is if someone doctored a photo of her with PhotoShop to place it there.

So, if she appears that way, even as a spoof, it means Stephens IS A LIAR about that presentation.

As far as my comment to you, part of it is STILL valid as you apparently have a problem with “gay adoptions.” YOU mentioned the term, not me, and not Erick in the initiation of this thread. You brought it into the thread, and I reacted as demonstrated.

People who think “gay adoptions” are a bad thing, whether it’s you, Senator John Douglas, (OR, in the words of GaWire, the entire senate caucus…AND the Governor) are people who demonstrate just how obtuse you are about things YOU DON’T HAVE A CLUE about, but just react on a visceral, ignorant level.

I am so fed-up of hearing conservatives and/or Republicans bandy the terms “gay”, “lesbian” or whatever about in political discussions as though they are lepers and negative people that I’m fed-up with standing by and letting it go by without a comment.

  13. techtrack says:

if it doesnt matter why do you bring it up? how can you make a claim that your not campaigning for or against handel – when all you do is echo the stephens mantra

  14. Three Jack says:

My reply answered your question but not in reference to Karen Handel who I am sure does not seek the support of Ralph lest he drag her down with his sinking ship.

  15. Bill Simon says:

Wanna make a bet? Because, it was Speaker Glenn Richardson who said in an interview last year that he “just doesn’t think gay adoptions should happen.” when pressed as to WHY, he said he didn’t know, he just didn’t think it should be.

Now, if you cannot come up with a VALID reason to be against something like this issue, then I can only suspect it is due to the normal, visceral reaction people have had to gays in general, and Glenn is afraid to publicly voice something like “Ain’t no f***ing way we’re gonna let weirdo gays adopt children and suck them into a homosexual lifestyle…”

Jace, don’t screw with me, and don’t try to bullshit me into thinking I’m off-base. I know what I’m talking about.

  16. jacewalden says:

I’m not against gay adpotion or marriage.

But, I’m sure Speaker Richardson’s rather uneloquent comments don’t speak for ALL members of the assembly who are against it.

  17. Bill Simon says:

#1, I know John Douglas IS against it.

#2, the comment regarding “all of the senate caucus and the Governor” was a facetious statement about a conversation I previously had with GaWire.

#3, I’m against “gay marriage” but for “civil unions”.
