Georgia can do so much better than Ralph Reed. Reed, a native of Miami, Florida, is only in this for the power and control aspect of the Christianist agenda. What's a Christianist, you ask? A Christianist is a person who is much like an Islamist. They do radical things in the name of God with power and control as their driving goal.

The voters of Georgia have been played for fools before and look what it got you--Roy Barnes and then, Sonny Perdue.

Is it coming to be realized that anyone who claims to be 'born again' can sway these Bible bangers. People need to learn to sift through the garbage and see where a man's heart is.

Reed is highly involved with Jack Ambramoff and he knew full well he was helping screw the Native Americans out of their money. We're not fools, Raplh. I don't care if you were a UGA student at one time, you are too sleazy and my state can simply do better.

Debbie,

I thought we weren't supposed to believe anything the AJC writes. Or is it that we aren't supposed to believe anything the AJC writes about Ralph Reed?

Betty,
Did Reed suggest he had a weak staff by suggesting HB's and SB's concerning banking laws were signed into law by the present administration? Did Reed state "Had he known now, what he he knew then, he wouldn't have gotten involved?
How very Kerryesk of him!

This cycle is suffering from a rash of weak campaign staffs. Cagle is now saying his staff distributed a press release that didn't accurately portray his thinking on the donation to Taylor. And also this week Cathy Cox was quoted in Southern Voice telling Rep. Karla Drenner that the first press release from the Cox campaign on gay marriage was also flawed and that she "read it but didn't proof it."

Golly, it takes the fun out of spectator politics when the gladiators aren't evenly matched. There are some good examples of top-notch staff: Taylor's Rick Dent, Cagle & Kemp's Joel McElhannon, most of Perdue's team (though they're really not being tested yet), Shyam Reddy's Kristin E. Oblander and Karen Handel's Marty Ryalls. Then there are the real clinkers, most notably Cathy Cox's Peter "Spokesmonkey" Jackson.

Come on, candidates, shed the weaklings and get up to combat speed!

No, Debbie, it doesn't. "Backing away from assertions" means one is backing away from something that their minds may have made a snap decision on and, upon more careful reflection, they realized that may not have been the case.

Now is "backing away from assertions" the same thing as admitting you lied?

Cagle retreats from alleging threat by lieutenant governor

Casey Cagle, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, is backing away from assertions that in 1999 he gave newly elected Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor a $1,000 contribution because the Democrat "threatened" GOP legislation and committee assignments.

Cagle blamed the accusation on an errant news release. "Oftentimes in campaigns, press releases get put out there — I don't ever remember Mark quote-unquote threatening me," the state senator from Gainesville said this week in an interview.

The gaffe grew out of an April debate between Cagle and his rival in the July 18 primary, Ralph Reed, the former head of the Christian Coalition.

We're setting up Creative Loafing's endorsement issues as debates that we then podcast. Our endorsement interview/debate for the Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor are up now at clpoliticalparty.com. Help us make up our minds by commenting on who you think's the better candidate

Creative Loafing's debate/endorsement interview of the lieutenant governor's candidates is at clpolitical.com. We'd like to get as much input from politically active folk to help us with the endorsement, so please check out the debate online and give us a few comments on the candidates. Thanks.

Geez, we're all so serious today! Let's lighten up and welcome the weekend by hearing President Jed Bartlett tell us in his new documentary how Bush and Big Oil "killed" the electric car:

OK? Liberals now have another reason to hate George Bush and Conservatives can have a good laugh. We're all winners in one big "PP" family!

Southern,

Did you know that "facetious" is one of only two (2) words in the English dictionary that utilizes all five (5) vowels in order?

Can you name the other?

Cheers,

Erick won't be backing Casey because to do so would mean his relationship with Cecil would be in the toilet afterwards...and, the one thing about the Family of The Christian Coalition loonies is that you can never go against The Family on any race.
