This should be a surprise. It is one more example of the lack of a moral compass within the Christian Right.

As these special interest extortion artists continue to diminish in their size and influence, true Republicans should rejoice everywhere.

Congratulations Sen. Stephens, now go cheat on your wife.

  2. Tammi Metzler says:

GRTL supports those who demonstrate that they are supportive of the sanctity of life. Stephens has done that more so than Handel, so this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

  3. Emily says:

Dont confuse Georgia Right to Life with the Christian Coalition. . . GRTL does good work at the capitol and they’ve passed some good pro-life legislation in the past 2 years. Stephens is solidly pro-life and he’s probably been a good friend to them under the gold dome.

And Dear TheAngryBeaver, just wondering…what’s your beef with stephens?

  4. JRM2016 says:

I look forward to Sen. Stephens and GRTL rolling out the platform to toughen Georgia’s election regulations and licensing schemes in order to reduce the number of abortions in our state. I wonder who GRTL is endorsing for Ag. Commissioner or Labor Commissioner, other offices vital to the cause of making abortion illegal in this state.

    Emily,

First off, The Angry Beaver did not say christian coalition, they said christian right. So get off the high horse.

Second, no one has to have a beef with stephens to think he is a crook and a hypocrite. Lets look at the facts here:

Stephens used to be a democrat, and supported the most evil of all men in repbublican cirlces, Bill Clinton.

Stephens was fired by Gov. Zell Miller for having an affair with an underling while serving as Miller’s Press Secretary.

Stephens was given the biggest fine for an individual in GA Ethics commission history for using campaign funds like a personal checking account.

And those are just the things that are verifiable. I have heard many rumours about other moral indiscretions that I will not repeat.

So, I think the beaver (what kind of name is that anyway) is looking at those things when he/she questions the “moral compass” of GRTL’s endorsement.

4ofspades, everyone knows your Steve Handel, so nothing you say is valid.

Stephanie, I can’t know the validity of your claims without proof. The Bill Clinton thing is crap. Sonny use to be a democrat too, so do you not support him? And didn’t Handel work for Sonny? So she worked for Sonny who use to be a democrat, so I guess I can expect Handel and her supporters to start slamming sonny for being a former dem. I mean stephens never ran as a democrat, but sonny did.

Where is proof he had an affair, besides someone simply saying it? Does zell miller say it happen? And why would zell miller endorse someone who he fired for such an act? Are you also calling zell immoral?

Plus, stephens sent out a press release today saying that Handel voted to use public money to support planned parenthood? How is that moral, ethical, or anything republican’s would stand for?

    Tammi Tammi, poor naive Tammi,

Just so you know, I am a democrat. Just don’t like reading peoples bull$hit. Anyway, there are many pictures out there with Stephens and Bill Clinton. I believe Bubba McDonald had one last election that he was handing around. In the copy that I have, Bill and Bill are shaking hands. At the time, Stephens was working for Zell and there is no reason to believe that Stephens was not supporting the same man his boss was supporting. It is kinda what you have to do.

As far as the affair goes, heard that one from lets say 40 different folks (including several of Zells former staff members, and folk that worked for him later on.), and I DARE anyone to say otherwise.

I think there is even a news story reporting such but do not have access to it at the moment. Wait, wait, I did a little research and found one that, while is not the one i wanted, will do. Also, apparently Stephens first wife thought so. http://www.sovo.com/2004/2-6/news/localnews/divorce.cfm

And as far as Zell Miller endorsing someone he fired for having an affair, well that is just Zell. He is known as Zig Zag Zell for a reason. The man changes his positions more times than most parents change thier kids’ diapers.

As far as Handel is concerned, I do not know the facts, and since Bill does not put his press releases on his website, can’t know for sure if what you say is true. Handel also does not have an answer on her website. (see, id do this thing before i rattle off an answer, I look it up. Novel idea, i know, but you should try it sometime.)

Also, I would wager that there are a great many republicans who support abortion. Just like there are a great many democrats who are against it. Neither group is monolithic in any of their beliefs. Just look at Bill Simon. He holds many in his own party with contempt, but he is still one of you.

Political memories in Georgia are long. Have lunch with a few of the good ole boys down there at the capitol and they will tell you some tales that would make your skin crawl. I heard a great one the other night that gave me a new angle on the whole Dafuskie Island incident a few years back, and the folks who came out looking even worse in the escapade weren’t members of my party.

    Steph

    Tammi,
“Everyone know’s I’m Steve Handel”. Not sure I would trust what Brian has to say. We’re talking about a person who has been fired from just about every campaign he has worked on. Including Lamutt, he is no longer a member of team Cagle, and now is on your/Stephens team. He actually did work on the Handel campaign in 2003 putting up signs (although he has claimed he was an insider). Now he has a problem with her 2003 campaign. Seems to me like an outraged vindictive young man.

You also said “Katie who”, yet have called yourself a Stephens insider in past posts, nice try…

    Stephanie,
Actually Stephens was not working Zell when he was out campaigning for Clinton. He’d already been fired.

Remember, that facts never get in the way of Stephens or his campaign team (Tammi, Raspail, Brian).

As far as press releases on his website – he doesn’t post the negative attacks about Handel there – just sends them out to his email tree. You may want to subscribe, they may as much sense and are as fact filled as his “voter outrages”.

  9. Tammi Metzler says:

4 of spades, this further shows that what you say isn’t valid because not only are you Steve Handel, but you also lie. I never said I was a Stephens insider before, and I don’t personally know any of his staff. I don’t know Brain from Ellijay, but what he had to say seemed credible, and the other names you posted under, like Beth, have seemed to disappear since then. Also, I checked Stephens website, and brian isn’t on there, so I guess he doesn’t work for them, he probably just supports them, just like I do.

Stephanie, if you’re a democrat bashing republicans, that’s fine. You can even bash Stephens for it. But it is dumb for republicans, like 4 of spades, to try to bash Stephens on it when they are also trying to elect Sonny, who use to be a democrat, and who Handel use to work for! So, when is Handel’s staff going to start bashing Sonny for his former democrat ties? Or has he just proven himself enough for you? If he has, then you can’t argue that Stephens also hasn’t also proven himself to be a real republican in the time he has spent as an elected republican.

  10. bowersville says:

    Tammi.
Rely on SC? You don’t know Brian of Elligay? What he said seemed credible? You are right, Brian isn’t on there(Reed website), however, he still isn’t credible, and neither are you!!!

  11. Bill Simon says:

    I’m right here with you, B’Ville. 🙂

I’m still waiting for rebuttals from NorthsideElephant on the thread called “Simon and Konop.”

  12. Brian from Ellijay says:

Steve Handel. Get your facts straight. I want to know what campaigns your accusing me of being fired from???????/ Sonny? Call Paul Bennecke at the State party and ask. Lamutt? Call Robert at home. Karen? Well Steve you even contradicted your first statement in your second. Nice Try Steve. I provided evidence with accusation, try that next time. BTW are you GAY with B. Simon? Seems like yall are talking alot.

  13. Brian from Ellijay says:

BTW, I am currently not working on any campaigns, as has been said many many times before on this damn blog. Each Post you make Steve is more childish and less researched. But I do have to say you are personally credible for making me get out and work for Stephens, before your bullshit I was simply supporting him, now I am putting him equal with Cagle in my time book.

    Thanks Steve.

  14. Brian from Ellijay says:

Also I was never a member of Team Cagle. But was and still is a supporter. And will continue attending events, but now I will have two candidates to promote. Thanks. I will continue to help who I want to win. And that is not your liberal wife.
