A military helicopter has apparently crashed in or around Moultrie. Reports are that the helicopter hit a television tower.

The AJC has more here. Thanks for the email, Fiddes.

    From Senator Chambliss:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today made the following statement regarding the U.S. Army helicopter crash that occurred this morning in South Georgia:

“I was saddened to hear that a U.S Army helicopter carrying five military personnel crashed in Colquitt County farmland near my hometown this morning. The loss of these fine heroes is indeed a tragedy. Julianne and I extend our deepest sympathies to these soldiers’ families, and our prayers are with the surviving member of the crew.

“One of my staff members witnessed firsthand the incredible response by the local first responders and sheriff’s department to this emergency. We will continue to communicate directly with local officials as well as U.S. Army personnel and stand ready to assist in any way possible.
