Zell Miller

In case you haven’t seen them yet, it is worth noting that in Sonny Perdue’s campaign commercials you’ll be hearing Zell Miller’s voice.

It’ll be interesting to see how far Cox and Taylor go toward criticism of Governor Miller.

  1. debbie0040 says:

You will also see Zell campaigning for Ralph Reed. Will be interesting to see if Cagle tries to bash Zell like he did Rudy. I am sure Gov. Perdue won’t be too happy if Cagle does.

  2. edhula3 says:

It will be interesting to see if having Zell makes a difference. I don’t think people care about what he stands for anymore.

  3. debbie, do you have anything to say that doesn’t have to do with reed/cagle? I’ve grown to rely on you for a daily dose of hysterical tripe, but I was hoping you could get some new material.

  4. Former Cagle Guy says:

Zell Miller will have an impact on this race and Reed’s as well. Those who think otherwise do not understand the popularity or elevated status of this new conservative icon.

It is a great idea to use his voice on Sonny’s first commercials and it will be equally effective and devistating to Cagle when he campaigns and does the commercials for Reed too!

  5. Demonbeck says:

Yeah, I heard that Bush and Zell were going to campaign together for Reed. They are waiting to hear from Paul Coverdell to see if he plans on joining them.

  6. debbie0040 says:

Paul Coverdell’s widow, Nancy is supporting Ralph and she has even been on the host committee for Reed fundraisers.

Zell will campaign for Reed and so get used to it. Get used to the fact that you are supporting a wimp.

  7. Briardawg says:

debbie0040: “wimp?” Did you really express that? I think you need serious help.

  8. Decaturguy says:

You mean Zell Miller, the former segregationist, turned progressive Democratic Georgia governor who tried to get rid of the Confederate state flag, who was “trying to mislead the people of Georgia” when running for re-election as Governor in 1990, was keynote speaker for Bill Clinton’s 1992 Democratic Convention, turned conservative U.S. Senator who who gave that rancid keynote speech for George Bush’s Republican convention in 2004, turned Ralph Reed supporter? Now he’s supporting Sonny? No way.

So my question is, Zell, are you now officially a Republican? Please say yes you are and stop playing this stupid game.

  9. Maurice Atkinson says:

Maybe I’m out of the loop, but I don’t think so. What has Zell done for Reed since the Hannity fest last year? Seems to me he’s been a bit mum. If he is supporting Reed, at least he can vote for him. The rest of the troup can’t vote for him, but it sure makes for some good entertainment.

  10. bowersville says:

Debbie(nothing personal), but a quote from our 40th president “there you go again.” The next thing I expect, after Zell doesn’t work for Ralph as well as you believe, is dragging out “ole’ Jimmy Carter for an endorsement and beating off a “mean rabbit (Casey Cagle) with a paddle.” As far as Reagan, I was at the Daytona 500 when Reagan flew in and the loud speakers announced “there is Airforce One with Ronald Reagan. He’s here to speak with Richard Petty.” And lo and behold, I listened to the KING (Richard Petty) speaking with Reagan. Reagan stooping to speak with the “BOOT LEGGER” NASCAR DRIVER Richard Petty(ie. BILL ELLIOT) NOT!!!! Don’t ever compare Ralph Reed to Ronald Regean. I met Ronald Reagan, and Ralph, you are no Reagan.

  11. Bill Simon says:

I’ll bet the Dems are writing their commercials right now. Their’s will show how in 2002, Zell Miller rolled himself out of a bed in the mountains to promote then-Governor Roy Barnes, and, maybe Max Cleland as well (if I recall that right)

Then, they will show how Zell Miller is now supporting Sonny Perdue for his reelection. And, they’ll properly pose a question to the audience like “Zell zigged back in 2002, and now he’s zagged in 2006. Who knows what Zell will be for next?”

  12. debbie0040 says:

Zell will do ads for Reed and campaign for Reed. Make no mistake about that.

    Timing is everything in politics…

  13. debbie0040 says:

Bowersville, Zell will not be the only one campaigning for Reed. There are many others that will be, too.

  14. JP says:

Debbie, who cares what Purdue likes? What’s he going to do, campaign on the Confederate Flag again?

  15. debbie0040 says:

JP, Gov. Perdue has a record of accomplishment to campaign on this time.

I will concede that I believe it was a mistake not to allow a vote on the flag as was promised. I believe campaign promises should be kept. I believe that Gov. Perdue did not want the government shut down as was threatened by the Democrats so his back was against the wall on that issue.

Gov. Perdue has done a great job while in office. If Taylor or Cox had been Governor, the Barnes flag would still be the official state flag.

If Cox and Taylor were Governor, we would not have passed the Constitutional Ammendment to ban Gay Marriage.

If Taylor and Cox were Governor, we would not have passed Tort Reform.

I could go on and on…

  16. georgia grrl says:

i think the big question to be asked is how can Taylor still claim credit for all of Zell’s accomplishments when Zell refuses to endorse him?

I am looking forward to watching the Taylor campaign try to walk this tight-rope… or more likely watching them fall…

  17. Three Jack says:

“JP, Gov. Perdue has a record of accomplishment to campaign on this time.”

What accomplishments? Attempting to raise property, alcohol and tobacco taxes without consulting with legislative leadership? Saturday’s with Sonny? 50th in education? Pandering to special interest groups i.e. NATF, homophobes, flaggots (then flipping on them), teacher unions. Where has he shown even the slightest bit of leadership on an issue?

  18. debbie0040 says:

When Gov. Perdue took office he was looking at a 640 Million dollar deficit. We now have a surplus. He made tough decisions .

In December, He instructed that the agency that oversees Medicaid in Georgia to start verifying income and citizenship of applicants.

When there was anxiety about gas supplies and prices after Katrina, he waived the collection of state taxes on gasoline and eased the restrictions for higher additives. National press carried this story.

He help lead the fight for a constitutional ammendment to ban gay marriage.

  19. Debbie if you are a naturalized welfare recipient living in public housing that hates gays yet has to drive their car to work, then Perdue sounds like your man!

  20. Three Jack says:

    chris lmao!

In four years, that is the list of accomplishments for the first GOP governor in GA history? What about a tax rebate to pay back Georgia taxpayers who funded the so-called surplus (surplus — government term to describe result of excessive taxation leading to irresponsible increased spending on vote buying projects in hope of retaining elected seat).

  21. JoshA says:

I dont think a state that is 50th in education should start bragging about how its governor had students take the day off when gas prices got too high. OK, I will give Perdue credit, he has done a lot in four years. He changed Georgia from being the model of the new south to the laughingstock of the nation.

  22. McCain-Rice\'08 says:

This State loves Zell Miller and Mrs. Coverdale, but this state has also shown they will vote their concioence rather than take big namers word for it. Zell Miller endorsed Barnes and Clealand back in 2002…did it really help? and Mrs. Coverdale enorsed Mack Mattingly in 2000, did that help??..Dont get me wrong, I have emense respect for every leader that has endorsed Ralph Reed, but Georgians will get irritated if all they see are comercials for Ralph Reed featuring Big namers…they’ll know he is compensating for some hidden reasons. These People mean well, but when it comes to state-wide office..Endorsements are trivial.
As for the Perdue Comercial, I saw it today and was very impressed..and I have to admit, Mark Taylor didnt do to bad of a job either, we’ll just have to see how Cox does.

  23. Philly says:

chrisishardcore, that must describe the majority of voters in Georgia because Perdue beats Cox and Taylor in the early polls. Gov. Perdue also has a high approval rating.

Just because you are against gay marriage does not mean you hate gays. That is a trick used by the extreme left to say you hate gays because you oppose gay marriage. They can’t win the debate so they resort to name calling to dissuade anyone f orm speaking out on the subject. It means you are pro family if you are against gay marriage.

  24. Demonbeck says:

“They can’t win the debate so they resort to name calling to dissuade anyone f orm speaking out on the subject. ”

I think that is called “the Reed Doctrine.”

  25. Thanks for the sensitivity training Philly.

McCain-Rice, Zell is a well known and popular figure in the state, but Nancy Coverdell? I understand that she is beloved among Republican activists but the state as a whole could care less about her endorsements.

  26. Decaturguy says:

“It means you are pro family if you are against gay marriage.”

You must admit, however, that it means you have no regard for my family are the families of other gay people.
