Kathy Cox draws GOP challenger.

Education Chief Kathy Cox now has an opponent for the GOP nomination.  A man named Danny J. Carter of Stockbridge.  I suppose with her small war chest we shouldn’t be surprised.

Danny is a former agricultural education teacher. He moved up the ranks to become the #2 within the Career and Technical Education division of the State Department of Education. I understand that he recently left the department. There is no doubt that he has more education-based credentials than any other potential challenger.

I have known Danny for almost ten years now and have always found him to be a genuine and pleasant person, who had an impeccable work ethic. I have not interacted with him much since he moved to the state department, so I was a little surprised today to learn that he had qualified for this race. In rural Georgia, I think he will represent a serious challenge to Kathy if he is able to raise money. Soon after being elected, Kathy alienated many in the agricultural industry when she diminished agricultural education’s significance with the Department of Education. For the most part, agricultural education has been restored to its pre-Kathy stature. Nonetheless, I think animosity might still persist for her “I’ll cut first, ask questions second

Cox has name recognition going for her. I don’t think she has made anyone angry. It will come to campaign war chest.

I don’t think either of them will raise a campaign war chest to have a sizeable impact. On a statewide scale is raising $75,000 the same as basically raising nothing?
