Wa. Times: GOP targets Georgia districts

April 30th, 2006 · 13 Comments

Hat Tip: Power Line.
“Republicans scored two of our top recruitment candidates in Collins and Burns,” said National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Jonathan Collegio.
Most observers see Mr. Collins as the more promising of the two Republican candidates.
“I think Collins is looking better for Republicans than Burns,” said Nathan Gonzales of the nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report.

Yes, I Did

April 30th, 2006 · 5 Comments

I took down all the UGA CR soap opera posts. They were turning into a tit for tat where the fired guy and firing girl’s friends were coming on to smear each other about who is dating who and causing problems, etc.
It’s college stuff. It is also an example of why the Republican National [...]

Overheard

April 29th, 2006 · 48 Comments

We hear that the Reed campaign has not filed and probably does not intend to file a State Ethics Commission complaint against the Cagle camp. We also hear that several Reed supporters are trying to get the State Ethics Commission to start its own investigation without a formal complaint — as if none of us [...]

Jim Marshall

April 28th, 2006 · 7 Comments

Talk about cutting it close. Qualifying is now over. As of 11:45 and 5 seconds, the Secretary of State updated the qualifying page and did not have Congressman Jim Marshall listed.
I assume he has qualified by now, but if not, it’s over.

Bob Greer

April 28th, 2006 · 15 Comments

I’ve mentioned Gary Black, Brian Kemp, and Deanna Strickland, but I’m pretty sure I have not mentioned Bob Greer running for Ag Commissioner. He is a known quantity, but his money is way down below Gary Black’s. Still, it is increasingly apparent that we are going to have a runoff in this race.

Puffing

April 28th, 2006 · 28 Comments

So, as I said last night, I practiced election law for five years and dealt with a lot of candidates’ campaign contribution disclosure reports. I starting digging through the statutes and rules to determine if what the Cagle Campaign did was wrong. To recap, Larry Peterson in the Savannah Morning News reports on [...]

Extortion

April 28th, 2006 · 5 Comments

Georgia Oracle, a new columnist at Georgia Political Digest, thinks we need an investigation into the Cagle charge. In his words:

It comes down to this. Does Casey Cagle stand by his accusation of Mark Taylor? Did Mark Taylor extort money from him in exchange for protecting Republican senators and their legislation? Or, was his [...]

UPDATE: Judge reverses his decision to arrest Fulton DA
The arrest warrants against Fulton District Attorney Paul Howard were stayed, less than 24 hours after a Douglas County judge signed the papers allowing a deputy to move forward with her attempts to have the prosecutor face criminal charges for a courtroom altercation.

I’m Jealous of Chris Huttman

You all know that I’m a Republican. You all probably also know that I love Cathy Cox. Yeah, yeah, yeah, should she make it through the primary Sonny has my vote, but I really like Cathy Cox, even though I am doubtful that she can actually pick off the Big ManTM (no, not [...]

Fight! Fight!

April 27th, 2006 · 52 Comments

Well, after the Savannah Morning News story came out about the $100,000.00 raised by the Cagle Campaign, the Reed campaign decided to attack on the merits. They issued a press release, which said in part:
“The Cagle ‘race team’ would be best served by observing the legal speed limit and obeying the law,

It is official, Secretary Cox and Lt. Governor Taylor are now officially candidates for Governor — both having waited until the last half of the last day to qualify.
So now the question becomes this: will their primary be a blood, bruising, expensive primary?

April 27th, 2006 · 18 Comments

There is a rampant rumor at the State Capitol that Cathy Cox has decided to run for Lieutenant Governor instead of Governor.
Neither Cox nor Taylor have qualified yet. This meshes with several items of gossip over the past few days that behind the scenes the Cox campaign was struggling for renewed identity and suffering [...]
