GA 12: Burns vs. Barrows

From CQ Politics this morning:

Most campaigns still are relatively low-key at this early stage, with the major candidate confrontations well down the road. But that’s hardly in the case in the rematch between Democratic Rep. John Barrow and Republican ex-Rep. Max Burns in Georgia’s 12th District.

The two have essentially been running again each other continuously since early 2004, when Barrow launched his successful campaign to end Burns’ one-term House tenure — a victory that made Barrow one of only two Democrats who unseated a GOP incumbent that year.

With the scandal surrounding convicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff casting a cloud over his profession, Barrow’s campaign has tried to make hay of the fact that Burns was a registered lobbyist for the law firm of Thelen Reid & Priest in the first half of 2005, according to documents filed with the Senate Office of Public Records…

This was a bitter defeat two years ago, especially after the NRCC had put a lot of resources down there.  And even though the article says it is still early for this type of campaigning, if Burns wants to take this seat back, hopefully he started campaigning in November of ’04!  I don’t know about you all, but I haven’t heard much from Burns lately.  Any Burns people out there or 12th District experts?
