Vernon Jones and the Rape Claim

The AJC has a fairly in depth article about the rape accusation that had been hurled against DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones.

DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones declared himself exonerated last month of a rape accusation. Prosecutors, he said, confronted his accuser and “convinced [her] to cease the false allegations. The alleged victim, however, stands by her accusation, according to a lawyer who has advised her. And DeKalb District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming said at the time that she dropped the investigation because the woman wanted to avoid the trauma of a trial.

A review by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of witness statements and other newly released documents from the closed investigation suggests the matter was far more complex than Jones contended.

I have always heard rumors that Vernon has toyed with switching and running for office as a Republican. Before he was Mr Ceo he supposedly went to DC and told the RNC he would run against Congresswoman McKinney. Recently (a couple of years ago maybe?) the rumor was that he wanted some kind of deal to run for Lt Gov as a republican. Anyway else ever heard these?

Wasnt his chief of staff accused of rape a couple of years ago?

Well that would explain Mr CEO’s lawyer’s first comments when the charges were first made, “If you know Vernon Jones you know he isn’t capable of this.” I always thought those comments were a little queer to say the least.
