Georgia Baptist Convention panel votes to sever ties with Mercer

The Telegraph has the information. I will not speak too much on it as my wife is the President’s assistant at Mercer. But, as an alumnus, I will say this — there are faculty at Mercer who have, since I was a student there, tried to disrupt the historic relationship between the Georgia Baptist Convention and Mercer. They appear successful now and I hope the first cuts in any budget come from their salaries.

They need more diversity on that faculty. A friend told me that the Republican club at the law school couldn’t even find a faculty member to be a sponsor. They are close to Jim Marshall and Cathy Cox.

And I think they get a lot of state support for some of their endeavors. They have a good academic reputation–just too liberal.

The GBC obviously has the right to do whatever it chooses. However, this is just another example of the impact that extreme hatred of gay people is having on our society. It is really a shame.
