Controlling both houses of the General Assembly and the Governor’s Mansion means the Republicans are going to be on the defense next year. They’ll be wanting to hold seats, but also see if they can pick up a few. There are some prospective loses in the Georgia Senate and House, but there are also some solid potential gains (at least two in the Senate). The best way to play defense, though cliched, is often to play offense. With that, I think the GOP needs to gets its head around a solid “reform” agenda that would reverberate well between suburban Atlanta and rural South Georgia. With that in mind, what issues do you think the GOP should unite around.
I go for the following:
Taxes. Transition Georgia into a state more dependent on sales tax than income tax.
Education. Expand and empower local charter schools and school choice initiatives.
Technlogy. Aggressive work to expand the availability of high technology in the state to attract businesses and investment.
Efficiency. Work towards a more efficient, smaller state government.
Government Location Diversity. Ensure that the government will spread government offices outside Atlanta to save on rent, lower costs, and expand access to government agencies by all Georgians.
Emminent Domain: Public Purpose will not be a public use.
